CNA Pricing Checklist

Step 1: Define Your Business
Research my state's laws and requirements.
Identify the non-medical services I plan to offer.
Decide whether I'll work with an LLC, sole proprietorship, or another business structure (as applicable).
Determine my service area.
Decide how far I'm willing to travel.

Step 2: Calculate My Costs
List all monthly business expenses.
Estimate monthly vehicle expenses.
Estimate fuel and mileage costs.
Include insurance costs.
Include business software and subscriptions.
Include office and supply expenses.
Include continuing education and certifications.
Estimate self-employment taxes.
Total my monthly business expenses.

Step 3: Set My Income Goal
Decide how much I want to earn each month.
Estimate how many hours I can realistically bill.
Calculate my minimum hourly rate.
Add a profit cushion.

Step 4: Research My Local Market
Compare rates in my city or county.
Research independent caregivers.
Research non-medical home care agencies.
Compare services included in those rates.
Decide where my pricing fits.

Step 5: Build My Pricing Structure
Set my standard hourly rate.
Set my minimum visit length.
Set my weekend rate.
Set my holiday rate.
Set my overnight rate (if offered).
Set my live-in rate (if offered).
Set my mileage policy.
Set my travel tee (it applicable).

Step 6: Decide on Additional Fees
Cancellation fee (if allowed by law and included in my service agreement).
Late payment fee.
Returned payment fee.
Same-day booking fee.
Last-minute booking fee.
Emergency visit fee.
Retainer or schedule-hold fee (if offered).
Waiting time fee (if applicable).

Step 7: Organize My Services
Create a list of all services I offer.
Group services into care levels (if using levels).
Decide which services are included in each level.
Identity services I do not provide.

Step 8: Finalize My Business Documents
Create my pricing sheet.
Update my service agreement with pricing and tees.
Review all policies for consistency.
Save a digital copy.
Print a client copy (if desired).

Step 9: Review My Pricing
Review my prices at least once a year.
Update rates if business costs increase.
Review local market trends.
Keep my pricing sheet current.
